Pro Tip #1: Be ready before testing broadheads
Ready could be defined in many ways, but with respect for this tip, it means:
Have your equipment dialed in, not simply having a free night or two next week to shoot before ordering broadheads to test.
If you have that free night or two, spend it at a local archery shop where you can ensure your arrows and rests are right. Some places might put a fancy laser on for a “perfect” center shot, but don’t be afraid to ask to shoot through paper. A few shots through paper are the ultimate truth and can provide insight you need to prevent many headaches and save time later. Any reputable shop should be more than happy to help you with this.
Even where paper tuning has been accomplished, there are several other “fine” tuning methods for bows and arrow alike. Nock, Bare Shaft, Walk Back, Broadhead tuning methods can be pursued where arrow flight and consistency or lack thereof is exhibited. Below are a few resources from some of our favorite experts in the archery industry who can better help you understand these methods and help you find the right next step to building your confidence.
